Who was Yahweh? A mysterious entity that came from the sky?
Who were the elohim?
The Bible uses the term Elohim to identify a plurality of individuals identified as the shining ones, therefore not one single entity as always believed for more than 2000 by Christians. It should be noted that when God is written, in Hebrew in the vast majority of cases there is the term “Elohim”. (plural ending); sometimes there’s “El” (singular).
Moreover, often the word Elohim is followed by the verb plural in Hebrew (as in Gen 20,13 or 35,7) while in Italian it is “strangely” translated with the singular.
Elohim is also referred from the Bible to numerous individuals, some of whom are even identified by their proper names: Yahweh, Kemosh, Milkom… and Baal.
Where do we find them? In the Old Testament we notice that in “King” they are mentioned.
1 Kings 11:33
The revolt of Geroboam
26 Also Jeroboam, the son of the ephraimite Nebàt, of Zereda, his mother, a widow, was called Zerua, while he was in the service of Solomon, rose up against the king. 27 The cause of his rebellion against the king was as follows: Solomon built the Millo, and closed the breach in the city of David his father; 28 Jeroboam was a man of honour; Solomon, seeing how the young man worked, appointed him overseer of all the workers of Joseph’s house. 29 At that time Jeroboam came out of Jerusalem, and met in the street the prophet Achiah of Shiloh, who was wearing a new cloak; they were two alone in the country. 30 Achiah grabbed the new cloak he was wearing, and tore it into twelve pieces. 31 And he said unto Jeroboam, Take ten pieces of it: for it saith the Lord God of Israel, Behold, I will tear the kingdom from Solomon’s hand, and give you ten tribes. 32 There shall remain for him a tribe because of David my servant, and because of Jerusalem, a city chosen by me out of all the tribes of Israel. 33 This shall be because he has forsaken me, and has bowed himself down before Astarth the goddess of them of Sidon, and Camos the god of the Moabites, and Milcom the god of the Ammonites, and has not followed my ways, doing what is right in my sight, keeping my commandments and my ordinances, as David his father had done. 34 I will not take away his kingdom out of his hand; for I have made him ruler all the days of his life because of David, my chosen servant, who kept my commandments and my ordinances. 35 I will take the kingdom out of his son’s hand, and I will deliver ten tribes to you. 36 To his son I will leave a tribe, that because of David my servant there may always be a lamp before me in Jerusalem, a city chosen by me to put my name there. 37 I will take you, and you will reign over as much as you will; you will be king of Israel. 38 If you will listen to what I command you, if you will follow my ways, and do what is right in my eyes by keeping my decrees and my commandments, as my servant David did, I will be with you, and I will build you a stable house as I built it for David. I will give you Israel; 39 I will humble the seed of David for this reason, but not for ever.
So there were many elohim, each one following his own people, with powers never seen before in those days, and they kept the land in check for hundreds of years. Some information has come to us through the Bible of Yahweh the god of Christians, we have neither a physical description, nor his provenance, who knows if we will ever know more about him and who were the other elohim certainly as powerful.
