Encounter with an alien: The d’Ambros case
An incredible tale about aliens!
It was about six weeks that Angelo D’Ambros, born in Fara Vicentina (Vicenza) on November 8, 1917 (he carried out various professions of which we mention that of bricklayer and worker in a squeegee) and resident in Gallio (Municipality located in the Altopiano of Asiago, in the province of Vicenza) in Via Sesto Alpini n. 4, he went to the woods that cover the mountain slopes overlooking the town with their vegetation: precisely in the upper part of Gastagh, where he cut shrubs to obtain firewood. It was therefore about 11.45 am on Friday, November 24th 1978 and about 10 minutes had passed from the moment when D’Ambros was at the point where the encounter with “something” was to take place that will greatly shake his normal nervous balance.
Turning to lay a freshly cut branch, he suddenly observed two beings with humanoid features, but at the same time with somatic characteristics, as a whole, different from those that represent the human identikit (at this point, D’Ambros in the course of our investigations, will define them “two beasts”). At this point we consider it extremely interesting for the reader, in order to report as faithfully as possible the words of the person concerned, to extract the content of the interview on magnetic tape.
Investigator: how many meters were they from her?
D’Ambros: About one meter, one meter and a half.
Investigator: were they side by side, or were they placed one behind the other?
D’Ambros: In the initial moment I saw them they were side by side. Immediately afterwards the smallest, who was about sixty centimeters tall, began to move here and there in very rapid jerks while the largest, who was about eighty centimeters tall, also moved but very little. It is good that I tell you right away that the two beings were constantly raised from the ground by about 30-40 cm: therefore, if I have to estimate their height from the ground level, to 60 and 80 centimeters we must add 30-40 centimeters. lifting from the ground.
Investigator: Describe the appearance of the two beings.
D’Ambros: They were extremely thin, with pale yellow skin pulled over their bones to such an extent that I could see on the hands of the taller being, the one moving slightly, veins as thick as a pencil while also on his head they were evident. of the veins but in a less accentuated way. They had a large, elongated, pear-shaped head, completely devoid of both hair and hair, eyelashes and eyebrows, at the sides of which stood out two ears as long as those of a donkey; but, unlike those of this animal, very thin like the rest of the body, and which rose vertically and ended in a point. Under the two white eyes, sunken, almost incarnate in the head, with a diameter of about 3cm, without lids, there was a long nose in such a way that it almost reached the quite fleshy upper lip, light yellow like the skin, on a mouth more or less like ours but wider, at the ends of which two large white teeth protruded for about 3cm, while under the mouth there was a chin like ours but very thin too .
The two beings were covered in a dark suit, of a color that could be obtained by mixing together black, gray and green, very adherent, which also covered the arms up to the wrists and legs up to just below the knees, leaving the hands, the rest of the legs as well as the bare feet, and which ended at the top in a round neck. The hands and feet were of a length clearly devoid of proportion with respect to the rest of the body and to be precise I estimated that the fingers of the hands, five in number, were about 25cm long, including about 5cm in length of the nails; while those of the feet,
Investigator: tell us what your reaction was and what happened.
D’Ambros: As soon as I saw those monsters I was assailed by a tremor of fear and I shouted, with all the breath I had in my throat << help! >>, hoping that someone would be nearby and come to my rescue, this for the reason that I could not know what intentions they had towards me since, gathering all my courage and questioning you repeatedly about their origin, as an answer I heard only incomprehensible mumbles coming from the smaller being (who kept moving with very rapid jerks, without moving the long feet in the least, causing with these continuous movements a very slight noise of air movement).
At the same time, as soon as I looked the tallest being in the face, the one that always remained in the same position and that moved very slightly at a constant distance from me of about one meter, these with his long hand grabbed my billhook (a kind of large hooked sickle often called on the Asiago plateau with the Venetian term “cortalaso”), taking it from the non-cutting part of the tip, and trying to get it out of me. My immediate decision was not to give it to him, because that tool represented for me at that moment my only means of defense; therefore I firmly grasped the handle, which is wrapped in a thick sheath of solid leather and equipped at its lower end with a hook that is used to hang it on the wall and on the belt.
The being, however, seemed to want to take possession of the billhook because he tried again to snatch it from me by grabbing it a little lower with the consequence that I seemed to feel a slight electric discharge in my hand and along my arm. Noting my firm decision not to let go of the tool, he returned to the charge using this time, both hands, to grab the billhook even lower, and much more fully, always on the non-cutting side of the blade. . In this last attempt the being used an exceptional strength that I was able to sustain thanks only to the fact that my strength was considerably increased by the desperation into which I had fallen in noting that my cries for help did not make anyone rush.
Investigator: the first time the being grabbed the tool, did he feel no electric shock?
D’Ambros: I never had the conviction that even at that moment I felt a very weak electric discharge.
Investigator: feeling a strong electric shock in her arm, didn’t she spontaneously let go of the billhook?
D’Ambros: I had only that tool to defend myself from those monsters and in any case I could not know if, once I had left it to him, he would not have used it against me.
Investigator: continue with the story of the facts.
D’Ambros: at this point I got angry, because it seemed that the being absolutely did not want to desist from its attempt to steal the billhook and bending a little, I took with the other hand a large branch decided to hit it to place an end to this affair, which at first had brought me to the brink of terror. Seen my gesture, the being immediately released the grip of the billhook and, together with the smallest, ran away, both turning their backs to me, with exceptional speed, always off the ground and without moving the long feet in the least. Regained my normal calm, now stimulated by an irresistible curiosity about the origin of those two inhuman beings, with the same appearance except the stature, as I have already told you, I followed them running as fast as I could towards the path they had entered. Since this kind of mule track, going through the plants, makes a sharp bend, I soon lost sight of them, but nevertheless I continued to look for them until, after a few moments, behind a large fir tree, about thirty meters away, I was able to see a strange object that was raised on all fours about three feet above the ground.
The shape was like the one you get by placing two saucers on top of each other, but slightly more oblong. At the top, in the center, there was a small dome, bright red in the upper part, including the dome, the device was blue in the lower part, while a white median strip clearly separated the two differently colored bands and the four legs were aluminum gray. The moment I saw the object, which was about four meters long and two meters wide, I noticed in the upper part, where the dome was, one of those long hands that closed a kind of trap door from the inside and carried it behind it. After a few moments the object took off at dizzying speed without any noise causing such a red blaze that it did not allow me to distinguish its features. It had been about 4 minutes from the moment I noticed the presence of the two beings behind me. one of those long hands that closed a kind of trap door from the inside and carried it with him.

Investigator: did the object rise vertically or did it cross off?
D’Ambros: it took off crosswise, disappearing from my sight in a moment behind the tall fir trees.
Angelo D’Ambros, considerably disconcerted by this shocking encounter, immediately returned home by running at a full speed the path that separated him from his home in just about 10 minutes (while it normally took about thirty to cover the same distance). Arriving home, he told his wife that he did not want to have lunch, secluding himself in a room to think or rethink what had happened to him.
The daughters and his wife, worried by this unusual behavior of the relative, asked him several times if he felt bad, getting evasive answers and not even the slightest hint of what had happened to him in the woods. When dinner time came, he decided to sit down at the table also because his son-in-law was present, Luciano Munari, born in Gallio on December 29, 1950,
Silently listening to the usual conversations between daughter and son-in-law, at a certain point he addressed Munari with these words: “If you had seen what I saw in the woods this morning, you would not have the slightest desire to discuss these things”. The son-in-law then asked him what had happened to him and here for the first time D’Ambros recounted his strange episode. Munari was somewhat perplexed by the story of his father-in-law, but, at the same time, having known him for some time as a person of the utmost seriousness, as well as highly balanced, and also taking into account the fact that he had never bought science fiction magazines and that he was not even usually read any newspaper and rarely watched television, he attributed a certain reliability, reserving, however, to be accompanied the next day on the spot, since it was already too late as it was already dark.
On Saturday 25 November, Munari, after returning from school, around 2 pm, was accompanied by his father-in-law to the place of the incident. Once on the spot, D’Ambros pointed out to his son-in-law, from a certain distance, the exact spot where the object was. Thanks to this indication, Munari found in the clearing an almost circular area of about 3 and a half meters in diameter in which the grass appeared black, rather than burnt, dirty as if it were oiled, clearly flattened and rotated anticlockwise. It should be noted that – as Munari told us – one could see, on the one hand, an extension of about two meters of the footprint consisting of crushed and rotated grass, but which did not appear black.
D’Ambros’ son-in-law then considered it appropriate to touch the grass which gave him the distinct impression of being dirty with black and to his great surprise he found that his hands remained completely clean. It should also be noted that inside the area of flattened, rotated and black grass where the father-in-law had indicated that there were the four legs on which the object was supported (whose shape, according to D’Ambros, was like that of forearms that form 90 ° with the hands, that is “legs that ended in cut”, to use his exact words), Munari found two footprints 2-3cm deep, equally wide and about 20cm long, practically U-shaped, about one and a half meters away from each other. Blaming the presence of some stones the fact that he could not notice those that must have been caused by the other two legs.
As a further confirmation – Munari told us – that D’Ambros actually saw something anomalous, it was also possible to see on the side where the object had started there were some bushes, also consisting of brambles, completely uprooted from the ground This is the effect of the displacement of air caused by the departure of the object.
The trouble was that Munari hadn’t thought of taking his camera with him, with the bitter consequence of not being believed, once back in the village, by many fellow villagers. To the incredulous he replied that the next day he would return to the woods to take pictures, but unfortunately the night of Saturday 25 November it snowed on the Asiago plateau causing the circumstance that only Sunday 3 December he could go to the UFO observation post together. to the photographer of the country and to other people who had not believed neither in his father-in-law nor in him. So they shoveled the snow where Munari remembered having observed the two U-shaped footprints in order to photograph them and, once the photos had been developed, being these in black and white, the details of the footprints were very little evident.
Not satisfied with it, Munari decided to go to the site again on Sunday 10 December to photograph, this time with his camera, the two footprints and fearing that the photos (on this occasion in color) equally could not be noticed well, I surround them with colored paper yellow. Luciano Munari was also the architect of his father-in-law’s decision to contact the “Giornale di Vicenza” to inform the public on what had happened. “I was attacked by two Martians: they wanted the billhook”, on Friday 1 December 1978, largely distorting, as unfortunately is the peculiarity of the non-specialized press every time it approaches the problem of UFOs. the two footprints and fearing that from the photos (on this occasion in color) they could not be noticed equally well, I surround them with yellow colored paper.

The testimonial report. As soon as the article was published, in addition to the many onlookers, some UFO enthusiasts residing in Vicenza visited D’Ambros in order to ask him some questions. Noting (like Munari and D’Ambros themselves) on the blade of the billhook an imprint about the size of a little finger (but made up of horizontal lines) and the unusual dark red color that the cutting part of the blade had assumed, they asked for and obtained (upon the release of their identity card) the tool on loan in order to take it to a research laboratory in Vicenza so that appropriate analyzes could be carried out. Unfortunately – as Carlo Spaliviero, one of those enthusiasts, who lives in Vicenza in via Spalato n. 14 – the laboratory they contacted asked them for a large sum of money, with the result that they decided to return the billhook to Gallium, not even thinking of photographing the imprint on the blade. As Munari told us, once he got the billhook back, which appeared from the cutting part of the blade still dark red in color, D’Ambros used it again with the result that soon both the imprint and the unusual color were not more visible.
When we went to Gallium for the first time they told me in the D’Ambros house that a few days earlier, following their visit to the UFO observation site, to collect mushrooms, the grass still appeared black and dirty, not being , at that point, practically regrown with the spring.
Unfortunately we could not make an immediate inspection for the reason that it had snowed on the Asiago plateau just two or three days earlier; and the wood, given the altitude, will certainly remain covered with snow until the first days of April this year. Munari, in the course of our second investigation, which took place in February 1980, also pointed out the following: “If it had been me, who am 29 years old, to tell you about this strange episode – I who read the newspapers and often watch television – you might have even thought I had fantasized about such a thing; but, for my father-in-law, it would be practically impossible to make such a story.
Although he may have misrepresented some detail in telling the episode, considering the state of natural dismay into which he had fallen and taking into account that he can use the perfect vision of only one eye, having damaged the other in a work accident (for which, and ophthalmology teaches us this, the seen in the distance, while that of things placed at very close distances decreases, however very little), I am inclined, especially after having seen what had happened in the woods where he had indicated that the object was, to conclude who certainly was involved in a fact that is unbelievable. I would also like to add that my father-in-law told me that, while chasing beings, he almost fell and slipped on the ground. Well, as soon as we arrived on the spot the day after the event, he also showed me, from a certain distance, the point where he had slipped, and actually, once I got there, I could see the mark left by the slip. After the episode of my father-in-law I decided to read up a bit on the subject of UFOs, and I bought the book “Report on UFOs” by J.
Allen Hynek with the result of being able to verify a very evident resemblance of the two U-shaped footprints photographed by me (especially the way they looked before the snow fell) with what is shown in a photo of the book, all surrounded by stones (Munari was referring to the footprints left by a UFO in Soccorro in New Mexico, April 24, 1964 Ed.).
Coming now to our consideration of the case, we can affirm that we have not been able to find any natural explanation, therefore we are convinced that the fact must be cataloged as an “unidentified phenomenon”. Basically the Gallium UFO had only one observer, although there are other non-negligible collateral testimonies that follow one another during November 24, 1978 in locations located in the same Asiago Plateau and its limits, and on which the National Ufological Center has for some time now in-depth investigations which we do not mention here for the reason already expressed and on the results of which we will not fail to inform the reader. Having made repeated visits to the Gallium boarding house, in order to complete the related dossier, we were able to check the character and way of life of the D’Ambros and Munari families several times, concluding that they are people who enjoy an excellent reputation in the country and who are extremely simple, very close to their daily activities.
In particular D’Ambros, having only attended school up to the fourth grade, as he himself told us, appeared to us as a person not gifted with great culture, and therefore very hardly subject to flights of fancy.
The UFO left us traces on the ground and the billhook, according to several people, had an imprint left by a “hand” of the being and had assumed a dark red color from the cutting edge of the blade. The probability that the sighting in question has a natural explanation is, in our opinion, minimal if at all, since, having carried out in-depth investigations on the case, we are convinced that something physical and material happened in Gastagh locality involving the retired.
It is not possible to dismiss the case by attributing it to a hallucination, as there is no evidence to support this solution; on the contrary, there are other cases in the Tre Venezie, on which we have already opened various investigations for some time, which contain elements in support of the theory that affirms concreteness, but at the same time the unknown origin of the entities associated with UFOs. We want to conclude with these words of D’Ambros, pronounced during our investigation.
Investigator: Assuming that we are not disrespecting you, in our opinion, you may also have been the victim of a hallucination in observing those two beings that you define inhuman.
D’Ambros: Absolutely not!
Investigator: There are some people who don’t believe in the existence of UFOs. What, on the other hand, is your conviction about it?
D’Ambros: After what I’ve seen, I can’t refuse to believe they actually exist.
